Let’s Make: Paint Splatter Jellyfish

June 2, 2020

We’re loving all things glittery and vibrant at the moment and this jellyfish project was just too much fun not to share! With 3 fabulous colour-ways to choose from, this project is a great way for the little ones to get creative and stuck into crafting.

To make the red jellyfish, you will need:

To make the green jellyfish, you will need:

To make the purple jellyfish, you will need:

How To Make

  1. First, paint your wooden jellyfish with acrylic paint (coral blush, pistachio mint or purple cow) and leave to dry. To avoid filling the line detailing with paint, we recommend painting lots of thin layers.
  2. Once dry, splat the other paint colours onto the jellyfish. You can do this by applying a small blob of paint to a semi-damp paintbrush and flicking your finger across the bristles. Keep going and changing colours until you’re happy with the outcome! Leave to dry.
  3. For the tentacles, cut your yarn/string to roughly 30cm long (cut to slightly different lengths for floaty tentacles). We’ve used 2 lengths of string per hole.
  4. To thread, fold your 2 yarns together in half and feed the folded end through the hole of the wooden jellyfish. Pull the yarn about half way through and loop the loose ends through the folded half. Pull the loose ends tight to secure the knot.
  5. Continue to do this for all the holes, mixing different yarns and strings together for random splashes of colour! You can add more or less glitter cord depending on the look you’re going for.
  6. (Optional) If you’re using medium jute string, we recommend untwining the loose ends to achieve a frizzy effect.
  7. Thread a small piece of string through the top hole and your jellyfish is ready for hanging!

We’d love to see what different colour combos you come up with, so don’t forget to tag us on Instagram and Facebook with your creations!
